EDITORIAL

Dear Readers,

Many things are changing in NYC city politics, including the changing of the guards. NYC just received a whole new set of City Council members and a new mayor. For the first time there’s also a majority of women in the NYC Council. Fresh eyes always bring new perspective and I think it will be positive for us as a community. Our newly elected Councilwoman, Mercedes Narcisse,, who is representing us (part of Marine Park) in the City Council, and who took over the term-limited Councilman Allan Maisel, has been involved in advocacy for several years now, and is also a registered nurse and entrepreneur. I think she not only brings her years of experience to the table, but also the sense of compassion that comes along with being in the healthcare field. I would be remiss if I didn’t take this opportunity to thank Councilman Allan Maisel for his years of service as an assemblyman as well as a councilman representing our district and doing so much good for the community during his many years of service.

We also have a fantastic new mayor, Eric Adams, who has risen through the ranks over the years, starting as a police officer and then a state senator, followed by Brooklyn borough president, and now the mayor of the great city of New York. He’s proven himself to be competent person and a great friend to the community. We wish him a lot of success and have a lot of high hopes for the work that he’s going to do for NYC.

We definitely have many issues that we need to work on as a city. People see things from different perspectives which can make things murky at best or argumentative at worst.  It’s important to have someone who we trust even though we may not always agree with them, and that’s why I think we’re in good hands with our new mayor.

Let’s always remember that we play a part in all these decisions by voting and voicing our concerns when we see things that we feel need change.

Warm regards,
Shea
