Dear Readers,
As I write this, a war rages in Ukraine. 2000 people have died, including 13 children, and a million have fled.
As of today.
That’s the thing with a monthly magazine. By the time you read this editorial, or any of the articles in this magazine, plenty of time has passed since their composition. That’s why we try to avoid time-sensitive information or pressing headlines, even if they appear close to our print date.
Exactly two years ago, our world shut down. In the interim, the world has changed in more ways than I can describe in a column. Nothing is ever certain in this life, but now it is without question that our fate, and the intricacies of our daily lives, are solely in the hands of our Creator. Along with the external changes, our perspectives have shifted, and hopefully, so have our values. These are the things that we can write about in these pages.
This magazine serves many purposes. It’s a great way to share with you the things we do here at the JCC, the happenings in our community, and to explore topics that we hope you’ll find interesting. We share parenting advice, recipes, and, in this issue, we help you organize your homes. But it should also serve another purpose: to focus on the things that are important to you. If you have a subject you’d like us to cover, please reach out me, or to editor@thejewishecho.com. We’re always happy to hear from you.
It is my tefillah that by the time you receive this magazine the headlines will be full of good news. That very soon the war in Ukraine will be a thing of the past. That we witness a world that has changed for the better.
If we’ve learned one thing from Purim, it’s that Hashem can turn things around in the blink of an eye. May that happen speedily in our days!
