Brooklyn Mourns the Petirah of Rabbi Moshe Yosef Yanofsky, Z”l
Jewish communities around the world were saddened to learn of the petirah of the legendary mechanech Rabbi Moshe Yosef Yanofsky, z”l, longtime principal of Bais Yaakov of Boro Park and later Machon Bais Yaakov in Boro Park. A graduate of Mesivta Yeshiva Rabbi Chaim Berlin, Rabbi Yanofsky was guided by Rabbi Yitzchak Hutner in how to be a mechanech to Jewish girls. He was recognized as a pioneer Bais Yaakov principal who with creativity, good cheer, and inspiration influenced thousands of talmidos to become future nishei chayil. May his memory be a blessing.
Agudath Israel of America Billboard in Response to NYT
In recent months, the New York Times has published more than a dozen articles critical of the Orthodox Jewish community including the yeshivah educational system. In response, Agudath Israel of America has launched “Know Us”, an initiative that places billboards in Times Square and next to the Lincoln Tunnel that call out the newspaper and demands that they “Please Stop Attacking Our Community.”
Masores Bais Yaakov Dinner
Masores Bais Yaakov will mark its 35th annual dinner at Ateres Chynka on Tuesday, January 17, by honoring Mr. and Mrs. Shaya Samet, members of the Marine Park community. The mission of the landmark Brooklyn girls’ school is to provide an enriched education to hundreds of students in grades K-12, while still maintaining a focus on the individual girl. Also being honored are Mr. and Mrs. Avromi Schonfeld, Mr. and Mrs. Menachem Feiger, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Weiss, and Mr. and Mrs. Ephraim Elchonen.
P’eylim Lev L’Achim Breakfast to Recall Rav Uri Zohar, zt”l
P’eylim Lev L’Achim’s Brooklyn breakfast will be held at Agudas Yisroel Bais Binyomin. It will begin with divrei brachah from Rabbi Moshe Tuvia Lieff, Mara d’Asra of the host shul, and ruach by Reb Joey Newcomb. A memorial tribute will be featured in memory of Rav Uri Zohar, zt”l, the famous Israel comedian and cinema star who became a baal teshuvah and was the heart and soul of Lev L’Achim. The guest speaker will be Rav Lipa Geldwerth, Mara d’Asra of Khal Kol Torah and Rosh Mesivta of Yeshiva Torah Temimah.
Yeshiva Toras Emes Kamenitz Siyum Sefer Torah
Yeshiva Toras Emes Kamenitz invites the public to join in celebrating a siyum Sefer Torah complete with live music, dancing and seudas mitvah at Ateres Chynka on Sunday, January 22. The event will include pre-siyum interactive learning for talmidim, parents, grandparents, alumni, and friends that will be capped by a dessert reception and kumzitz. The sefer Torah will be dedicated to the memory of Rosh Hamosad Rabbi Shimon Segal, zt”l. There will be a special tribute the yeshiva’s late executive director Rabbi Eliyohu Chaim Zelinger, z”l. The music will be provided by Uri Davidi and the Lev Choir, and shiurim will be delivered by Rabbi Doniel Kleinman and Mrs. Slovie Jungreis Wolff.
Ruchama Bistritzky-Clapman Honored by Nefesh International
Mrs. Ruchama Bistritzky-Clapman, executive director of M.A.S.K. (Mothers and Fathers Aligned Saving Kids), was honored with the Esther Solomon Memorial Award for her outstanding contributions to mental health in the Torah Community at the 25th Annual Nefesh International Conference in Parsippany, New Jersey. Nefesh International, the Network of Orthodox Mental Health Professionals, was founded in 1992 with the goal of bringing Orthodox Jewish professionals and rabbis together to address mental health issues that we deal with daily on a professional and communal level.
Rav Elya Brudny on Yearning for the Geulah
Earlier this month, Rav Elya Brudny, Rosh Yeshivah of Mir Yeshiva in Flatbush, delivered an address to women and girls at the Veretzky Hall on the theme of “Reigniting the Yearning for the Geulah in our Daily Lives.” A riveting panel discussion followed on how women can develop a feeling to desire Moshiach in times of joy, and not only in times of pain. The event was dedicated in memory of Mrs. Rochel Weiss, a”h.
The Cheder 30th Anniversary Dinner
The Cheder -Yeshiva and Mesivta Sholom Shachna – will host its anniversary dinner on Sunday, February 12 at Ateres Chynka to highlight the Brooklyn yeshivah’s third decade of harbotzos haTorah. The dinner will pay tribute to Mr. and Mrs. Naftali Manela, Mr. and Mrs. Eli Friedman, Mr. and Mrs. Sruli Friedman, and Rabbi and Mrs. Sholom Adelman.
Mayor Eric Adams Visits Jewish Media Food Conference
Mayor Eric Adams made a surprise visit to the nine the annual Jewish Media Food Conference in Manhattan ahead of Kosherfest. Mayor Adams praised the work of Masbia Soup Kitchen and asked that the food writers and influencers help him fight anti-Semitism using food.
