Purim Mishulash 5785 with Bubbly and Zany Mirup

I suppose you can’t blame me, my dear readers, for wanting to travel to Yerushalayim for Purim–especially for Purim this year, a period of time known as Purim Mishulash (or “Tripartite Purim”). I must admit that I am very fortunate to have as my guides to this infrequent three-day celebration a wonderful couple of American-Israeli guides (the grandparents of my oldest childhood friend, R’ J) who go by the title of Bubbly and Zany Mirup. Incidentally, their last name rhymes with “syrup” because Bubbly and Zany are so sweet and also because they generally do things backwards. (As proof, contemplate their last name!) Anyhow, they are the world’s greatest living experts on how to enjoy Purim Mishulash. Bubbly has the most effervescent, carbonated personality imaginable–and, as for Zany, he’s a laugh a minute. What an adorable clown!

Here’s the song which they taught me so that I would never forget Purim Mishulash:

Hey, guess what, gang: It’s finally arrived–

I mean until now I’ve actually survived

To celebrate once more in Yerushalayim

A very, very special time.

THREE-DAY PURIM, CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?

Why, I can hardly conceive it!

Imagine: on Friday, the 14th of Adar,

In Zichron Moshe and elsewhere

Around the Holy City, the Megillah both night and morn will be unfurled

And just like they do everywhere around the world, 

The Purim Scroll will be read,

Plus “Al Hanissim” will be said,

And Matanos La-Evyonim will be distributed

To those who need them to be contributed

So that they may enjoy Purim more fully.

(Oh, I feel so warm and wooly!)

No wonder then that I like this day the most:

It’s called “Purim D’Prazos“:

The Purim of unwalled cities–Day 1 of the Fabulous 3.

But on Shabbos, the fifteenth of Adar, which itself is called “Purim Mishulash” actually,

We add an extra reading to our parashah, factually. 

“Vayavo Amalek” is read from yet another Torah Scroll

And “Al Hanissim” (just like yesterday) plays a role

In our davening and bentchin’.

More food is customarily served today to all Jewish mentschen

Than on a regular Shabbos day.

No wonder that I like Day 2  so very much: It’s my favorite!

Indeed, I need nothing from the secular world to flavor it!

Wow! On Sunday, the 16th of Adar, termed “Purim D’Mukafos”

by those in the know,

We also celebrate the death of our foes 

(On this Purim of cities with walls

From the days of Yehoshua, as you may recall):

After all, 

It’s Day 3 of Purim Mishulash.

(Please pass me a prune-flavored hamantash.)

No more “Al Hanissim” now but we have instead

(You might say) Mishloach Manos and the Purim Seudah.

Such a wonderful day never fails to leave me in a stupendously good mood-ah.

So dress for the occasion and prepare for a rollicking good time

On Purim Mishulash 5785 in sacred, wonderful Yerushalayim.
