And though my brain is filled each day
With thoughts of good nutrition
It seems my daily diet
Leads to nothing but contrition
For though the trees bear fruits and nuts
Cornucopias of color
The chocolate always beckons
With a strong force like no other
I fill my plate with salad
Round it out with a small apple
Then push them aside and reach instead
For a doughnut and a Snapple
But on this day I stay on track
My table’s quite a sight
Fruits and nuts are on display
As the sole gastric delights
The seven species share the stage
With guavas, mangoes, and coconuts
And chewy, dark brown carob pods
Vie with pecans and hazelnuts
And when the bountiful feast concludes
I’m filled with gratitude
That chocolate may be tempting
But there’s nothing like nature’s own food
