Can you still hear the shatter of glass?

Can you smell the smoldering blaze?

Can you still hear the cries in the night?

The echoing shouts of yesterday?

When 80 years go by in a flash

Yet broken shards remain

When the world looks whole but this I know –

It’s been built upon the flames

Can you feel it? Can you forget?

Don’t you know what happened today?

I know. I remember. I’ll never forget.

And yet I continue to pray

That as we move on in our shining tomorrow

Beyond the shadows of the past

The buds of hope that surround us today

Will blossom, and flourish, and last
