The other day I found a notebook
You’d written in last year
All that you had learned in school
Was carefully printed there
Yesterday, I bought you a notebook
Its pages clean and bare
Waiting for your new lessons
To be transcribed with care
When you came home on your last day
All those weeks back in June
It was the completion of a journey
The months that passed so soon
As you set off once again
To start a year anew
The days beckon like blank pages with
The things that wait for you
And when the year is over
I hope that you look back
At pages filled with all great things
And growth that you can track
