JCCMP Mother-Daughter Challah Bake Attracts 500 Women
The moment of hafrashas challah is an auspicious one. That moment was shared by 500 women and girls on Thursday evening, October 25, as they joined the third annual JCCMP Mother-Daughter Challah Bake at Kingsway Jewish Center. The evening was preceded by a flurry of preparation, beginning Wednesday night and continuing throughout the day on Thursday, as a troop of volunteers premeasured ingredients and set tables with individual settings. Every seat in the hall was filled Thursday night as Naomi Elberg, known to many by her social media moniker, “Naomi TGIS,” demonstrated the hands-on dough-making process. A break followed, during which attendees enjoyed lively music from Hillel Kapnick, dancing led by an enthusiastic group of volunteers, refreshments including fresh popcorn and cotton candy, and a raffle and giveaways hosted by Challenge Early Intervention. Rebbetzin Tzipporah Weinberg, founding executive director of the WELL and Rebbetzin of Khal Lev Avos in North Woodmere, offered words of inspiration and led the hafrashah. Naomi Elberg capped off the evening with a braiding demonstration, allowing volunteers onstage to demonstrate their new techniques on camera. Attendees exited the hall bearing oven-ready loaves and rolls, a custom imprinted apron sponsored by Junees, and delicious mini chocolate babkas courtesy of Babkas and Burlap. The evening was sponsored by Yudi and Tzivi Solomon of Dependable Food and l’iluy nishmas Sarah Chana b-s Yeshaya Chanoch Henoch. Special thanks to all our volunteers, including the very energetic “runners” from Masores, Lev, and Bnos Leah Prospect Park, for making the challah bake an event to remember.
