Boy Gets Thank You Letter from President Trump

Eli’sha Davis, a nine-year-old boy from Tennessee, recently got a thank you letter from President Trump for his $3 donation. After Inauguration Day, Eli’sha heard that Trump was doing away with his salary, allowing himself to get paid only $1 a year. He was worried that the multi-millionaire would have trouble paying his bills, so he sent him a small donation to help him make ends meet. “I thought, how is he going to eat or drink, or you know, pay, if he needs to pay his water bill or anything,” he told his parents, who approved the contribution.  President Trump recently responded to his bestowal by reportedly sending a letter, a picture, and the $3 back, urging Davis to put it towards bettering his community. His mother told reporters at WGRZ, that her son was actually putting away money in order to buy a new mandolin, but kept on hearing about other disadvantaged people, like the ruler of the free world, who might need a handout.

High School Students Get Package from Space

Students at San Antonio’s Southside High School are really spaced out! The freshman class recently got a delivery from the International Space Station, which contained a box of chytrid fungus spores sent from space. The package was also received by two scientists and U.S. Rep. Will Hurd. More than 300 Southside students from fifth to 12th grades, not to mention students from other states, competed for a chance to present their science proposals to the National Air and Space Museum, but it was three ninth graders from Southside who ultimately won the national competition. The students sent the specimen into space in their quest to determine what effect zero gravity would have on the chytrid fungus, which infects amphibians with the chytridiomycosis disease, thereby potentially causing a global mass extinction. If the space station’s no-gravity environment inhibited the development of spores, as they hypothesized, that could provide ideas on how to slow its spread. The experiment was funded by the school district and a $10,000 grant from the Southside Education Foundation.

Donut Boy

Just in time for Chanukah! Jews love to eat donuts on the Festival of Lights, and it is thought that police offers love to eat donuts, well, anytime.  As a gesture of gratitude, Tyler Carach, a young Florida boy, is traveling across the country giving out donuts to police officers and other members of law enforcement as a way to thank them for their service. He is calling this campaign “I DONUT need a reason to thank a cop.” He explains, “It makes me feel good because I get to thank somebody that protects me and my family.”  Tyler, who has been nicknamed “Donut Boy,” visited 10 states in 10 days, handing out confectionary delights, coffee, and thank you cards to the men and women in blue. Tyler was presented with an honorary badge from police precincts in several states. To date, Tyler has handed out over 31,000 donuts with the help of Dunkin Donuts and Krispy Kreme, who support his mission.
