ECHOES

When You’re at School

When my son was five he wrote this:

When I’m at school

Mommy goes to Toys R Us and Kids ‘N Action

Buys toys and bicycles

And goes on all the rides.

Not quite, little boy.

Here’s what I actually do:

Rush through work

Rush through errands

Rush back home

And rush to cook dinner

Now that you’re older

You probably know all that

But here’s the part you may not know:

All through the humdrum

Of my gray, routine days

I utter a constant prayer –

Let my not-so-little boy

Come home with a smile

May his day be successful

And the next day….and the next
