New York Law Now Allows Batei Din To Operate on Sundays

Last month, legislation was signed into law by Governor Cuomo after passing in the New York State Senate and Assembly, which now allows arbitration and mediation court proceedings to take place on Saturdays or Sundays. The new law, sponsored by Senator Simcha Felder (D-Midwood) and the late Assemblyman Michael Simanowitz (D-Flushing), makes it easier to settle civil disputes outside the traditional courtroom setting. The previous law prohibited Sunday arbitration, mediation, and traditional courts alike. The newly signed law eliminates those restrictions.

In the aftermath of the tragic Boro Park fire that took the lives of Mr. and Mrs. Chaim and Faigy Gluck, a calamity that shook up the Jewish communities throughout the Metropolitan New York area, New York State Assemblyman Dov Hikind is hoping that it will serve as a wake-up call to everyone. The Assemblyman said, “I hope everyone will take the time to immediately review the state of their homes.
